Alan Macdonald

I rather like the paintings of Alan Macdonald. They combine reference to past masters while maintaining a fun, contemporary twist with the inclusion of pop art objects, like Heinz baked beans. On the whole, this mix of references works well however some pieces (like Holey Man) include lettering with clever phrases, which aren't so successful; I see these more as postcard fodder or a one-off joke that will surely wear thin soon.
