Digital Web Magazine

Read the interview with Dave Shea on the Digital Web site and the most interesting thing I read was the part about the three-column layout with a footer. Dave said:

I recently built a CSS-based, three-column layout, with footer, with full-height background colour, that's not dependent on content length in any one of the three columns. For all intents and purposes it looks like it was built with tables, and I honestly didn't think I could do it.

What might have been nice is a hint to how he managed to do this because I have encountered the same problem myself. In his blog about the interview on e response he received was about this topic and mirrored my own thoughts precisely ... and his response was: it's still in production ... looking forward to seeing that code. The only solution I've found so far is a fairly disappointing effort on alistapart.
