one design better than three

in teresting notion over at Stopdesign about delivering early stage designs and I'm quite tempted to agree. Recently in my freelance work I've been following the approach my company takes in producing several design ideas and letting the client decide. Occasionally the client doesn't have a clue, so when they choose the "least polished" one of the group it's dissappointing. The way I now see it is if you interpret the clients requirements accurately you should only need a single design!
